A beggar who gives something in return, sure.
Like squeegee kids do?
Are you saying that music is an assault on your person like the
unrequested window washing is an assault on your car?
And, of course, that whole squeegee thing was a vast exaggeration by
Giuliani and his ilk -- there were never more than a few dozen of
these characters to begin with.
Take note about Giuliani -- just about anything you may think you
know about him is likely to be an exaggeration.
Didn't you say that you refuse to buy and iPod because you don't want
music to be a passive listening experience?
For people who don't want to hear it, music is indeed as much an
obnoxious assault as those squeegee kids (or their older counterparts).
Think of the assault on our ears by the muzak systems in supermarkets,
hotel lobbies, elevators, telephone answering systems and elsewhere.
A classical violinists playing live in a non-musical location or in a
location where one doesn't really want to be hearing music is just as
obnoxious to some people.
