Ack. I take it these aren't the same. The settings in HP all talk about
Garritan, so I thought that Kontakt=Garritan with different names. They
both look about the same. It's the one with the pretend rack of synths and
no keyboard.

It is a little confusing. All of the sample players that work are based on Native Instruments Kontakt engine. The capabilities vary from player to player and they don't produce identical results.

1. There is the Garritan AU/VST that comes with GPO or Garritan Jazz or similar.
2. Kontakt Player 2
3. Kontakt 2 (Now at version 2.2)

Kontakt 2 is the full deal whereas Kontakt Player 2 is a vastly stripped down version of it.

Kontakt 2 is set up to use disk streaming, whereas the Garritan AU/VST relies on RAM memory. Kontakt 2 is supposed to be able to play anything that is built on the NI Kontakt engine (From East/West, Garritan, etc.) The problem is that Kontakt 2 sometimes reads the scripts differently or uses different Key Switches. The various updates try to address these compatibility issues.

Anyway, the point is that the player you are using might be where the problem lies. If you have the time or inclination, you could send me a one measure Finale file that replicates the problem, let me know exactly what instruments you are using, and I could run it through a variety of tests and players. It might help narrow the problem down or at least, give your complaint more data points.
