I don't believe Finale respects transparency (the alpha channel) in TIFFs. Even many graphics programs don't.
although there is a checkbox "allow transparency" in finale's own export dialogue...
i also haven't found a solution; at some point i had a graphic with a white background, and was hoping that this would lead me to solving the problem, but i never figured out why it was white and the rest black.
