I've been a professional musician since 1964, playing and arranging/
composing.
i adapt my work to suit who I I am arranging/composing for.
In this case 1 pro and 2 amateur tpts. and , as I said, this is
virtually a sight reading job.
Being a sax/ flt. / clt player i know that saxes are happier in
sharps - reason being, they play in sharps most of the time.
Thanks for the input,
Stan Lord

I am under the impression that trumpets would prefer flats.
Like other urban legends of this kind (strings prefer sharps;
flutes can't play in multiple flats; don't use the lowest notes on
a sax or oboe) this kind of impression applies strongly to
beginners, less so to experienced players, and not at all to
professionals. "Prefer" is not equal to "require." Writing for my
college show ensemble for 14 years and picking keys to suit
singers, my sax players got very good at playing (and even
sightreading) in 5 and 6 sharps.
