is there a term for the reduction of space alloted durational values in traditional notation? for example, the space alloted a quarter note is not twice that of an eighth except in specific contexts.
i am calling it "optimized" as opposed to proportional (100% proportional when pecision is needed) for the moment, but maybe there is an official term for it?
