My mistake; I had this option checked when it shouldn't have been. But this has spurred me to completely abandon linked parts and go back to extracting parts. That way, when there's a problem, even if it's my fault, at least it's limited to the part I'm editing, and doesn't have far-reaching affects that I may not notice for some time. For me, linked parts has only very marginal advantages, and I have no interest in going to lengths to make a feature "work", at the expense of my productivity.
