I tried turning off the staff names in parts but that doesn't work. I believe the problem is that I used the score merger to add parts to an existing score but the score merger function isn’t designed to do anything but merge scores. So the result is that the parts are not simply appended to the score as parts, they actually become part of the original score. I should have thought that through when I was looking at my options for combining the score and parts so I apologize for wasting your time. I did finally solve the problem by eliminating the problematic items from the score and re-entering them as text. Hopefully I won't find any more issues during my final proof. I no longer have the full Acrobat program where I know you can combine various pdf files.
