Ah, in that case it sounds like you have some file corruption. It may be mild—just preventing you from deleting the first measure or inserting.
Fortunately, this happened to me once (without a pickup, but that shouldn’t matter.) Cut the entire piece (command X), then paste it 90 measures later with Command-V. You may have some time sigs and key sigs to clear, and I have found that sometimes double barlines need to be reset so that they correctly break multi measure rests. Then you can paste in your new piece. Make sure you copy and paste measure STACKS so that keys, time sigs and everything get copied.
