You didn't mention the Score Manager. I set all my volumes and pans there, and that seems to work -- things like alto flute seem loud, but regular flute doesn't. The initial samples definitely seem to be at unrealistic volumes, but adjusting those in Score Manager appears to tame them for me. And, of course, using the pan controls is really important to make some sense of the soundstage you're making. I never use any of the other views, and balances are not bad. I suppose it depends on how much accurate detail you want in your demo.
