Dear Finale List,
My latest issue is a friend of mine who has created lyrics to the Vocalise, and I'm trying to turn it into a usable score for a singer to work from. My friend is an anesthesiologist, not a musician, and had been plunking (slowly) the Vocalise into his computer on Finale which he has mystifyingly decided to purchase and learn to at least be functional. To save time/money for other projects, I asked him if he had another version around, and he replied his music professor nephew had it, but in Siblius. Problem solved, right? Just send me an .xml file and we're done! And now, the rest of the story. I have just opened the file, and it is, unfortunately, ONLY the vocal line with lyrics, but no piano part. I really would like to avoid coding this in from scratch, but I would really like to have a fully fleshed out version to play from, and for the singer to see the full accompaniment. So, my question is about SmartScore Lite; is it necessary to actually print out a file and then put it into the scanner and then analyze? Is there a way to simply have the program analyze a .pdf file if I print-to-pdf? Will the SmartScan Lite be sufficient, or will I just create a huge repairing headache for myself? Is the non-Lite version that much more effective? Ideally, it would be nice to get a hold of an .xml file of the actual song, so I could simply spend my efforts on adding the lyrics and fixing the layout issues, but I don't suppose one of those are around. It's unfortunately I'm going to have to reinvent the wheel a bit to make this project work, so I'm looking for the least painful solution. Thanks in advance!
