Xfree86-rootless (from 4.1, not 4.2) should be available through dselect.
4.2 is still rated as unstable, and you'd have to build it from source using
'fink install'.

There is a button in the Preferences that sets this behavior.  Did you
actually have rootless X working, though, or just the option? (It may be
that the option was given, but didn't actually do anything).
