Just an update:

I added these lines to ~/.xinitrc file before I called the window manager:

xfontpath install /sw/lib/X11/fonts/applettf/
xfontpath enable

and it picked up some more fonts. If I can figure out where all the fonts live I may be able to get them. Is anyone keeping a "how to set some of this stuff up" file for Fink?

Regards,
Ray

It may well be window manager-specific. Running the GIMP under
OroborOSX I don't see any of the fonts that applesystemfonts generated
for me.

Yes, that is what I meant by the apple font package. Applesystemfonts.
Does X11 make these fonts available to other X11 programs or is there
anything special I have to do... or...does the window manager make
fonts available?

To clarify the my original message the upgrade I refered to is the
latest version of Fink.

Have you tried the applesystemfont package?

Hello,

Does anyone understand how the apple font package works or how to get
GIMP to find them. Is it a function of the windows manager?

I am using blackbox-rootless. GIMP can't find any. After upgrading I
accidently installed blackbox (the regular version) and GIMP found
some, but since the menu wouldn't work in blackbox (the regular
version) I reinstalled blackbox-rootless and I'm back to GIMP not
finding any.

Any help would be apreciated.

Ray
