[Fink-beginners] Slow Scrolling Fix?

Is there a reason that scrolling in XFree86 is so slooooow in Darwin? I am logging in to gnome through >console and running it default. Is there any hack I can do to speed up scrolling like in Mozilla and other apps? I press the down arrow key and my whole screen has to refresh and it's dog slow.
