That's probably the best thing to do.  As I recall, when I first
installed Open Office, I let it install dlcompat, and wound up breaking
my Fink installation.  Your existing Fink-installed libraries shouldn't
be overwritten, but you may wind up having build problems if the version
of a library that Fink has is newer than what MacGimp uses.

That being said, you may need to put symbolic links to your
Fink-installed libraries where MacGimp expects them to be (e.g.
/usr/local/lib--I'm not sure where MacGimp puts them).
