Do you have any idea which program tries to install perl? I have
nearly the same base configuration, namely Mac OS X 10.3.2 with
it's perl and the virtual package installed too and up to now no
program tried to install a fink perl.

O.K. currently I don't have that much programs running but the
whole gnome desktop is installed. Other packages that under OS X
10.2.x installed a perl via fink haven't installed any perl up to
now so the problem must be out there in a package description or
somewhere else.

If you know which packages causes the perl request best guessing I
have is that you should write to the maintainer and ask him if fink
perl is necessary or if the system-perl package is enough.

Regards,
Eric Hoch
