Do you have any idea which program tries to install perl? I have nearly the same base configuration, namely Mac OS X 10.3.2 with it's perl and the virtual package installed too and up to now no program tried to install a fink perl.
Good point -- I could check .info files for the packages I've installed, I suppose, but I seem to be having disk problems -- attempts to install _any_ fink packages fail due to multiple bus errors, as do attempts to launch emacs in a (X11) terminal window or anywhere else, and TechTool and Norton Disk Doctor are unable to finish checking the catalog structure of my hard disk (DiskWarrior did its thing, but didn't solve the problem) -- I'm looking at backing up my files and reformatting my hard disk. Thanks for your help,
Jonathan
