I tried reinstall and fink returned "can't find package
gnome-print........deb" so I did a rebuild and gnome-libs-dev rebuilt fine
and gnome-print-dev returned:

which looks like I'm back into a freetype issue. Remember that fink replaced
freetype2 with freetype2-hinting to correct a dependency. However I noticed
that you wrote that freetype2-hinting was not in the 10.3 dist. list. Any
other options?

This is due to a bug in freetype2 (or freetype2-hinting). What version do you have installed.
