I finally managed to do it! I manually updated the mirrors and now
the files point to the right addresses. Now I have version 0.80 installed.
I still have a couple of problems with a couple of packages.
1) I could only install xfig as a binary and not from source.
2) xdvi doesn't seem to have all the fonts and mktexpk doesn't work
I get the following error upon using xdvi to view a dvi file generated by
latex.

I don't know why fink doesn't want to upgrade your file
/sw/etc/apt/sources.list to something that works, but as long as it doesn't,
you have to do it manually (that is, until you crack and erase /sw and
reinstall from scratch, using the 0.8.0 installer).
In any case, the address us.dl.sourceforge.net doesn't work and shouldn't be
there any more. The right address at the moment is
http://bindist.finkmirrors.net/bindist, that is you should have the two lines
in your /sw/etc/apt/sources.list
deb http://bindist.finkmirrors.net/bindist 10.4-transitional/release main
crypto
deb http://bindist.finkmirrors.net/bindist 10.4-transitional/current main
crypto
instead of the lines with us.dl.sourceforge.net.
