to run without errors, but otherwise so far so good!

Yes. Fink is not set up to allow you to bring a PPC setup to an Intel
box. It must be built from scratch on your new machine, following the
"2006-02-21: Preliminary version of Fink on Intel" instructions on
fink.sf.net.
