Hello,

I reported problems with X11 installation yesterday
("cannot install xfree86 on Intel").

As it seems that I got some kind of installation for X11,
I just tried to look what happens if I try installing
some application which needs X. I tried calcoo,
xmms, xemacs, gnuplot. Nothing got installed with
different error messages, but these messages all
had the following in common:

---------------
Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
[...]
  xfree86: Conflicts: xfree86-base-threaded
Conflicts: system-xfree86 but 2:4.5-2 is to be installed
  xfree86-shlibs: Conflicts: xfree86-base-threaded-shlibs
Conflicts: system-xfree86 but 2:4.5-2 is to be installed
---------------

This seems to indicate that I had to install another xfree86 version,
namely, xfree86-base-threaded. So in any case, I have to remove
my current installation?

You have some partial installation of xfree86 and xfree86-shlibs, and since your xfree86 package is not completely installed, fink interprets this as a kind of manual installation of X11, neither from Fink nor from Apple. If you want to avoid further trouble, get rid of your xfree86 installation and install Apple's X11User.pkg and X11SDK.pkg.

Forget about the "base-threaded" stuff, this is all happening in the realm of virtual packages.
