Thanks Alexander and Lorenzo,

I'll respond to Alexander and then Lorenzo:

Alexander:

Ok - So I updated fink and tried

Try to install Gnumeric - get this:

------------
Reading Package Lists...
Building Dependency Tree...
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.

Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:

Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
gnumeric: Depends: gtk+2-shlibs (>= 2.4.0-1) but it is not going to be
installed
Depends: libgnomeui2-shlibs (>= 2.4.0.1-1) but it is not going
to be installed
Depends: libbonoboui2-shlibs (>= 2.0.3-2) but it is not going to
be installed
Depends: libgnomeprint2.2-shlibs (>= 2.4.2-1) but it is not
going to be installed
Depends: libgnomeprintui2.2-shlibs (>= 2.4.2-1) but it is not
going to be installed
Depends: libglade2-shlibs (>= 2.0.1-2) but it is not going to be
installed
E: Sorry, broken packages
------------

So Itry to install a 'not going to be installed package' and get this:

Depends: x11 but it is not installable. For Fink users, this
often means that you have attempted to install a package from the binary
distribution which depends on a "Restrictive" package. See

So the problem is not with the Gnumeric, but not sure what - maybe my Fink
Install.

I should also point out that I installed Darwin Ports prior to installing
Fink. I removed it, but perhaps there is some residue causing conflict with
Fink?

I've also had an odd message about ~login when I first installed Fink, maybe
that is a source of the problem also?

Lorenzo,

Thanks for the link to:
http://www.appletalk.com.au/articles/index.php?article=12088

I started going through the process but wasn't too sure about deleting X11
and replacing it with Ffree86 so I stopped.

On another forum (Zaurus Users Group) I know of someone who installed
Gnumeric without a problem using X11 so I don't see a problem there.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help!

Daryl
