'apt-get -f install' isn't necessarily the best way to go here:  that's a 
holdover from Debian, whose tools we borrowed, and is really designed for a 
primarily-binary setup, which Fink is not;  moreover I'm now not convinced 
that it handles our stock of virtual packages correctly.

X11's not a requirement by any means.  But you happened to  install an mtr 
package that wants it.  Try "mtr-nox" instead.
