Thanks for the reply. I'm indeed on 10.6 and I installed Fink from source,
according to the instructions here:
http://www.finkproject.org/download/srcdist.php
It all seemed to install fine, and I ran selfupdate without a problem.
Is there a way to run apt-get install with more verbose output? I can't
figure out why it can't find any packages.
