Hi John,

I'm the originator of the first thread on this subject. I found a way around
the problem, but it doesn't address the underlying issue. Someone at UCSF has
precompiled the entire Fink package for 10.6. Here's the link:

http://msg.ucsf.edu/faq/MacOSX-10.6.x-MacIntel.html

I downloaded the entire 6 parts of the archive (8.5GB) and unpacked it as
directed. It seems to work fine. I think if you want to use the 64-bit stuff,
you could simply rename the /sw folder /sw64. Someone should correct me if I'm
wrong.

Hanspeter, I did not have a custom icon for my HD. The computer has a single
hard drive. File Vault is turned off (never been turned on to my knowledge).
The /._. file is 161 bytes, quite small.

file /._. returns '._.: AppleDouble encoded Macintosh file'

I've tried to remove it prior to installation, but it comes right back during
installation.

I hope this helps!

Eugene
