Maybe this is related to your question? From 'fink info gdb':

  Usage Notes:
  The programs in this package are prefixed with fsf- (gdb is "fsf-gdb",
  etc.) to avoid conflicting with Xcode's programs of the same name.

OTOH, I don't know how you tell ddd that gdb is /sw/bin/fsf-gdb. If you 
can't, you can always place a symlink into /usr/local/bin or $HOME/bin.
