I'm happy to report that the new caching code in fink (in the CVS version
only, for those who don't know) is working great for me.

I just had my first occasion to use "fink index", though, and I wanted to
alert other developers to the situation which led to its use.

I had evaluated a package submission a while ago, and asked the submitter
to make some revisions, but I left the original .info file in my local
tree. Today, I got his revised version (a file with the same filename
as before), and replaced the old file with the new one. What I think
happened is this: the IE download preserved the modification date on his
file, which was older than the last time I ran fink. So fink thought that
nothing had changed in my local tree, and used the cached copy of the
original .info file instead of the new one. This was extremely puzzling
until I realized what was going on and ran "fink index."
