Fink is able to handle different locations, the installer should prompt
for it.
This is exactly my point. The FAQ states that the reason Fink doesn't
live in '/usr/local' is that it'll interfere with other software also
installed there. But if you put the entire Fink hierarchy under
'/usr/local/fink', you won't have this problem.
I misread that then, my fault.
Actually Ia m only the Documentation maintainer and PR guy, whihc isBy now almost everyone knows what /sw stands for and it would beI disagree on both counts, but it's a moot point as you're a developer
rather detrimental to our further development to change the naming
scheme.
and I'm not. I was merely posting my suggestion as the FAQ directed
me to. :)
why I am concerned about changing the name. Everyone knows what a BMW
is, while most do not know what that acronym stands for. If BMW chose
to name their cars from tomorrow on as:
Bayrische Motoren Werke, what do you think would happen? Even though it
is still a BMW , if I told you, that I went out and bought myself a
Bayerische Motoren Werke, you would stare at me rather blankly.
For a long time /sw has been an "acronym" or at least and ailas for a
Fink install on a Mac system. That is my point and it is never moot,
since we are indulging in active discussion here and nothing is set in
stone.
