Well, firstly let me state that with the exception of xfree86 we should kill all user installed system-foo packages. They are mostly untested by developers, and are a pain to maintain all the system-foo | foo depends lines.
Having said that however, the fact that these packages install in /usr/local has some advantages. We do not need to make any symlinks from %p/include to /usr/local/include for gcc to find the packages includes, not do we need to symlink any libs. ld will find libs in /usr/local, and for binary users, dyld will look first for libs in /sw/lib, and having failed that will find them in /usr/local.
The only problem is that iirc we "clean" the PATH when doing fink build, so the executables in /usr/local/bin would not be found. Adding detection of these packages to VirtPackage.pm should be pretty easy though.
