The search is not working "well" on the fink Sourceforge website. Maybe because it only knows about 141 packages: http://fink.sourceforge.net/pdb/list.php

Might have gotten it in the middle of an index, that url shows 2753 for me right now...

Okay, what's the situation with indexing? In the past 10 minutes it's gone from 270ish to 540ish.

That's odd, the part of the PDB updated which affects the database should usually take 30secs max. I can only assume that somebody played with the DB definitions while I wasn't looking :-)

OK I just did a manual reindex and timed it. It took exactly 18 seconds to updated the package "flags" (which is the time in which you may see a low package count). I don't know why it would take 10 minutes. Extremely odd.

That makes fink look pretty crappy and/or
the PDB essentially worthless.

You are exaggerating, I think :-). There's a difference between "bad" and "completely useless".

Is this repeated slow reindexing a new "feature" of SourceForge? Why
is indexing not done in some temp area and then the live database
updated all-at-once?

Essentially, that would requires us to have a second DB and swap that with the regular DB.

Cheers,

Max
