The first option uses the screen real estate better. The column headers that are somewhat too heavy could be made lighter by replacing the two-liners "stable<br>version" and "unstable<br>version" by just "stable" and "unstable". It is clear at this point that the numbers in the columns refer to versions.
Also, as has been suggested, some color would be useful, for example like here:

Then I'm not sure colors may be suitable for color-blind people, though I'm in this category and have no problem with them, but there are many different way of being color-blind.
