The idea is that the user should never need to open /sw/Applications in the Finder. Therefore for those app bundles that are meant to be used as apps, there are symlinks in /Applications/Fink whose originals stay in /sw/Applications. You can double-click the icons in /Applications/Fink, and if you suddenly feel that mythical urge to shift your app bundles around, you don't do much harm if all you are moving are symlinks :-)
