Fair enough. It occurred to me today of course that if I really wanted the
old versions I could presumably force-install them anyway. I managed to
successfully complete the 8.1 upgrade today after some random bizarreness
with a broken 8.0 database (fixed by pg_resetxlog) and duplicate values in
the PK of one table (possibly caused by and/or the cause of the previous
problem). Everything seems to be working fine now, Postgres-wise at least.
