Hi Martin:

Thanks very much. Unfortunately in this particular case, that isn't happening.
Even if I force-feed it the locations of these various *.la files, compiling
eventually terminates with

libtool: link: cannot find the library `/sw/lib/libpangoxft-1.0.la'
make[1]: *** [coot-real] Error 1

The other thing I don't quite understand is why I am running into this problem
only with the pangocairo branch. Coot happily uses pango1-xft2-dev on the
current 10.4/10.5 branch.

Why do pango1-xft2-ft219-dev and pango1-xft2-dev put their files in different
places if they mutually conflict/replace one another?

I've also asked coot's author, but he didn't really have any suggestions either.

Thanks.

Bill

Many package in the pangocairo-branch (look in finkinfo/gnome, for
     instsnce libgtkhtml2.info) have

PKG_CONFIG_PATH="%p/lib/pango-ft219/lib/pkgconfig:%p/lib/fontconfig2/lib/pkgconfig:%p/lib/freetype219/lib/pkgconfig:$PKG_CONFIG_PATH"
as configure flag or as environment variable in the CompileScript,

     and

     NoSetCPPFLAGS: true
     SetCPPFLAGS: -I%p/lib/pango-ft219/include/pango-1.0
     -I%p/lib/pango-ft219/include -I%p/lib/freetype219/include/freetype2
     -I%p/lib/freetype219/include -I%p/lib/fontconfig2/include -I%p/include
     NoSetLDFLAGS: true
     SetLDFLAGS: -L%p/lib/pango-ft219/lib -L%p/lib/freetype219/lib
     -L%p/lib/fontconfig2/lib

This is supposed to take care of the two problems you mention.
