I do have one concern about this.

As one user expressed on the mailing list today, people should not be  
forced to switch to texlive immediately (perhaps not ever).  There  
are several possible reasons: (1) it is a very large download, (2)  
they may have customized tetex in some way and need time to adjust to  
the new distribution, (3) other reasons I haven't thought of.

I wonder if there is some way to handle this which would allow people  
to keep the old tetex if they want to?
