First off, a couple of (slightly off-topic) observations:
- The archives at geocrawler don't have any search facility. It's a bit
harsh to expect somebody to wade through nearly 6,000 messages in an
attempt to find relevant information...
- I tried to submit a bug report, but sourceforge wouldn't let me
without logging in first. I know I've got a sourceforge ID, but I
can't remember the password offhand.
Yeah, maybe I *am* lazy... but shouldn't it be made as easy as possible
to search for information and submit bug reports?
Anyway -- the problem.
I'm using Mac OS 10.1.2, curl 7.7.2. If I try to configure fink with any
of the following, curl aborts with the error "Unable to resolve proxy":
http://username@proxy/
http://username:password@proxy/
http://proxy/
Using http://proxy works... *but* curl doesn't pick up on the fact that
authentication is required, and hence downloads the "Sorry, you are not
currently allowed to request..." message in lieu of the relevant files.
Yes, this is more accurately a bug in curl than in fink; however, it's
more likely that a workaround in fink (in the short term) would be
doable than a fix for curl.
Does anybody have a reasonable workaround for this problem? Note that
bypassing the proxy is NOT an option -- my workplace blocks direct access
to ports 80 and 21.
As an aside -- downloading binary packages with dselect works. Is it
using wget? (Note that I want to download and install gnucash, which,
AFAICT, is only available as source plus packages at this stage.)
Any suggestions would be very gratefully received.
Regards,
Stuart.
