I'm new to fink, but after following instructions and checking that the http proxy server address and port were correct, running update still gives
Err http://fink.sourceforge.net release/main Packages
Could not connect to fink.sourceforge.net:80 (216.136.171.201). - connect (60 Operation timed out)
Err http://fink.sourceforge.net release/main Release
Could not connect to fink.sourceforge.net:80 (216.136.171.201). - connect (60 Operation timed out)
And so on
How else can I get Fink to work? I'm running this via my LAN at a university site, does dselect use non-standards ports to communicate or is there something more simple that I'm failing to do?

Re-run 'fink configure' and try setting FTP
Passive mode to false (i.e., answer no to the question "Use
passive mode FTP transfers (to get through a
firewall)?").
