This isn't exactly what you're trying to do, but be aware that OSX comes
with PHP installed but disabled by default. I have it activated in my
httpd.conf file with the following lines:
% grep php /etc/httpd/httpd.conf
LoadModule php4_module libexec/httpd/libphp4.so
AddModule mod_php4.c
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php
AddType application/x-httpd-php-source .phps
%
If you want to use an Apache/PHP combo as supplied by Fink, that's fine.
Just activate it the same way as shown here.
If your httpd.conf file is more or less standard, then somewhere near the
top you will have a long series of lines (some commented out) reading
"LoadModule foo_module libexec/httpd/libfoo.so", and after this will be a
series of "AddModule mod_foo.c" lines. Add the php lines -- making sure
that the file & path names match what Fink provides for you -- in a way
similar to what I show in the first two lines above.
Then, again assuming that your configuration is more or less stock, there
should be a series of AddType declarations around the middle of the config
file. Add the php related mime types & the file name associations that you
want to associate with those types (.php, .php4, .pokemon, whatever).
Once these lines are added, run a "apachectl configtest" to make sure that
everything is okay, and then "apachectl restart" to reinitialize the web
server process.

This looks close, but it doesn't quite match my config (in particular, I'm
not sure if "libphp4_module" is right -- maybe try taking 'lib' out of
there...). But yeah, the following module path needs to be correct
relative to your ServerRoot directive. So for example, I've got:
% grep -i '^ *ServerRoot' /etc/httpd/httpd.conf
ServerRoot "/usr"
% grep -i '^ *LoadModule.*php' /etc/httpd/httpd.conf
LoadModule php4_module libexec/httpd/libphp4.so
% ls /usr/libexec/httpd/libphp4.so
/usr/libexec/httpd/libphp4.so
%
So in other words, the root is define as '/usr', I'm telling the server to
look for the PHP library at 'libexec/httpd/libphp4.so' relative to that
root directory, and in fact that file exists at that place on my system.
So, if your ServerRoot is e.g. /sw, then your PHP would have to be
installed at /sw/lib/apache/1.3/libphp4.so. Does that match what you see
on your system?
