I was one of the others who had a problem with this. I was busy planning a reinstall of OSX so it wasn't catastrophic. I never did find a way to extract one program from the devolpers tools package, but I didn't try very hard. My biggest and still existing problem is what to do about PERL.
I haven't upgraded PERL or installed any of the modules I need because of this problem with HEAD vs head. I realize that neither PERL nor head are fink programs, but since the problem comes up here I'm wondering how other work around it. I've already stored a copy of the head binary. I don't expect apple to make OSX case sensitive in the immediate future. I don't really look forward to copying HEAD into /usr/bin if I need it and keeping head there the rest of the time. I'm slightly nervous that CPAN will do this to me again at some other time. I don't want to stop using PERL.
