...because this sort of thing is exactly why databases exist in the first place? Working XML into the equation is no panacea -- it can make things a *lot* more complicated, very quickly. Too many things can break there. I know a guy that winces every time someone suggests using XML for some sort of data processing work. Before I didn't understand why. Now I'm starting to see his point -- often, it's a lot of overhead and fragility for minimal flexibility in return. In a case like this, I wouldn't bother with it unless there was a clear & compelling argument in it's favor (and no, buzzword compliance is not compelling... :).
