Hello, I noticed there was a thread a couple of days ago about fink selfupdate failure. It wasn't clear to me if it was solved - but I think I have an explanation, at least in my case. I have also had the same failure.

I had copied the .info and .patch files by hand - but instead of putting them in /sw/fink/dists/local/main/finkinfo, I put them in the /stable/main ... directory. The files I moved have the same permissions (rw for the root user, r everyone else). It looks to me like fink is not able to overwrite these files because they have the identical file name. I am going to try moving them to the local branch and see what happens. Perhaps this is what has happened to other people?
