I know my .cshrc (Mac OS X Version 10.1.3 (Build 5Q45)) runs it when I double-click on /Applications/Utilities/Terminal, but I wonder whether it happens when I use the GUI to log in to the system. I get an error from the init.csh when I open Terminal, but that is likely trouble I have caused on my own. If it runs automatically at login I would expect to see the error in /Applications/Utilties/console.log, but it isn't there. Are you logging in through the GUI, ssh or something else?
If it works when you run 'source /sw/bin/init.csh' what happens when you run 'source ~/.cshrc' ? Is the echo command in your dot file or in the init.csh?
