Martin,

It sounds like you are talking about the upgrade procedure for normal
packages when new version come out?

Ghostscript seems to be different in that there are actually two different
packages. One is called "ghostscript" and the other is called
"ghostscript6":

<irrelevant output removed>
[localhost:unstable/main/finkinfo] dorfman% fink list ghostscript
Reading package info...
Information about 409 packages read in 5 seconds.
    ghostscript 7.02-2 Interpreter for the PostScript language
 i ghostscript6 6.01-1 Interpreter for the PostScript language

My problem is that these two packages provide the same functionality,
"ghostscript," but fink views them as different packages, rather than one as
an upgrade of the other. So, I need to switch which package is satisfying
the dependency, but without simply removing one - or I have to remove
everything that depends on it.

I tried "fink install ghostscript" previously, and it said "ghoscript
conflicts with ghostcript6".

I tried it just now so I could show list the output of doing so, but
something else has broken since my latest selfupdate - I get parse errors in
the "dpkg/available" file.
