1) I do have problems too with atlas (still running with 3.3.14) _ but I 
think UFS-related;
couldn't pin them down yet fully (had same with all previous versions).
Certainly unrelated to yours : I'm running on G4, for which atlas has a 
profile, so it has
to do much less timing experiments than with your G3.
But I know people with a G3 who installed without problems.
2) I do remember to have seen (either in the docs on the atlas site, or 
possibly on this list),
the advice, when timings are inconsistent as in your case, to re-run the 
build
when there is no other load on the machine.
So, to get more consistent timings, maybe re-launch the build 1/2 hour 
before leaving
your machine in the evening, so you'll get to answer all questions right 
before leaving,
and it'll do the build during the night.

(If that fails, you got an advice from the program : "RERUN WITH HIGHER 
REPS")
