Thank you guys for your quick responses, Well, now I see I should go and look for that file before emailing to the list.. somehow I overlooked it.
The most bizzare thing is that I found the /System/Library/Perl... empty!!! Upon discovering my first move was to restore the directory content from the backup, but then I thought that it might be directory damage that caused this. And if I go ahead and write the files from backup into the damaged directory it can make things even more severe, so I decided to wait untill I can drive to the office and reboot the server and run fsck.
