Hey! Look! Positive feedback! :-) I updated to xfree86 -base and -rootless 4.2.0-11 (from 4.2.0-6, IIRC), and not only did it compile and install without a hitch on the first trey, but it also cleared up a nagging issue I had with siag and nethack.
The issue had to do with keyboard input and focus with dialog boxes. Basically, dialog windows wouldn't get/take keyboard focus. This happened with at least two different window managers. I could paste text into them by middle-clicking, but they just plain ignored keystrokes. (There was an x-resource-based work- around for nethack, but that just caused core dumps.)
