The environment variable TERM_PROGRAM is defined somewhere else to
"Apple_Terminal" in your case and that's what you see when you type
"env" in the terminal. (I suppose that's what you've done.) The
statement 'if ("$TERM_PROGRAM" == "Apple_Terminal") then' evaluates to
true in your case while 'if ("$?TERM_PROGRAM" == "Apple_Terminal")
then' evaluates to false. (Please note that '==' checks if both sides
are representing the same string. It does not do any assignment.)
Therefore, the question is not if $TERM_PROGRAM is defined or what
value it holds, but if the body of the if statement gets executed or
not. As Apple defines there only how the name of your terminal window
should look like, it does not really matter, if it gets executed or not.
Cheers,
Remi
