Seems the message is not clear enough for you. I'll try again: You have XFree86 installed from a different source than fink, right? You had system-xfree86 installed to make this known to fink. This is OK so far. Bear in mind that the xfree86 installation in the 3 directories /usr/X11R6, /etc/X11 and /Applications/XDarwin.app has a size of more than 120MB, and that system-xfree86 does not own any files itself, it only make some symbolic links and other bookkeeping stuff to make fink aware of your external installation of xfree86. Now you want a fink-installed xfree86. For this you (with the help of fink) have to replace the whole 120MB by a new version. Removing system-xfree86 is not enough. Fink does not remove or overwrite files it has not installed itself before, so it refuses to erase the 3 directories mentioned above. You have to do this by hand before you can install the xfree86-base and xfree86-rootless packages from fink.
