[Fink-users] lilypond fonts

I'm a newbie as far as debugging fink packages and font installations goes, so bear with me.
Using ly2dvi -P and then ps2pdf is ok.
Using ly2dvi -p produces pdfs with no note heads, only stems.
Suggestions on the lilypond list involved removing old fonts and remaking them, so I have tried rebuilding and reinstalling lilypond and I've verified that when uninstalling the /sw/share/lilypond directory is deleted so the fonts really are being reinstalled. This does not fix it.
They also said maybe I was missing type1 fonts - I notice there is no /sw/share/lilypond/1.6.5/fonts/type1.
I have tried deleting all the tfm fonts in /sw/share/lilypond/1.6.5/fonts/tfm. What this does is force the fonts to be built in a temporary directory and then deleted all the time, and with this method the compilation takes a long time but I do get note heads - this is interesting. Perhaps there is some way to rebuild the fonts and have them placed in the proper, permanent location? There may be a bug in the fink package, since one would expect this sort of thing (generating needed fonts from source) to be handled automatically. Perhaps there is some configuration related to the TeX installation, like printer specifications or something, that I am missing? Or some place where fonts lie corrupted (from earlier installs of lilypond-unstable) that I have not cleaned out?
