/usr/X11R6/etc/app-defaults/ which, I believe, isn't used by Apple's
X11. Copy XScrabble from /usr/X11R6/etc/app-defaults/ to your home directory.

Where exactly does the 'XScrabble' file reside before you moved it? You are not talking about the 'xscrabble.ad' file right? I never had that file.
