I'm beginning ot be a bit scared. I've effectively lost my system. Here's
some sample entries from /var/log/system/log:

Jul 29 22:55:37 may /usr/libexec/fix_prebinding: /sw/bin/touch could not
be launched prebound.
Jul 29 22:55:37 may /usr/libexec/fix_prebinding: /sw/bin/touch couldn't be
prebound in the past, and probably can't be prebound now.
Jul 29 22:55:37 may /usr/libexec/fix_prebinding: 2003-07-29 22:55:37
-0400: prebinding for touch done.

Lots more like this. I *do* have the 3.3 compiler. I am willing to RTFM
if I've missed something, but I wasn't really doing anything local on my
powermac except ssh ... I did a find selfupdate-cvs. everything still
seemed OK, then I did a fink update-all, and suddenly kde wasn't stable.
I read on the fink website about gcc_select, so I did a gcc_select 3, and
that's when things went seriously wrong.

Could I get a pointer? I don't know anything about prebinding, maybe I
should use this "redo_prebinding" or "update_prebinding"? I'm scared to
*really* horse things up (non-fink things still work, so far).
